On this page I want to tell of at least one visit to each of the following states. And then there were two!
(key: bold – never visited, italics – never spent the night)
- Alabama – while visiting Tennessee with my nephew James, my nephew Devon and I drove down to Alabama for a rather short visit
- Alaska
- Arizona – went to see BYU play ASU (I think), did a week worth of Java training near Phoenix, also many times to Vegas and cutting through a bit of Arizona
- Arkansas – went to Little Rock with my mom, dad and sister when I was but a lad
- California – been there many times, though I think the first time was when I did speech and debate for Ricks college. We went to a tourney at I think Point Loma and visited DisneyLand. Also Coachella, many trips with BYU college bowl, a family vacation and most recently seeing Víkingur Ólafsson perform the Goldberg Variations in LA and San Fran in 2024
- Colorado – used to visit with some regularity when living in Cheyenne. Went for a day trip to Denver with my buddy Daniel. Stayed the night at one place when on the seminary council, and also at the Berge’s for one stretch
- Connecticut – east coast road trip
- Delaware – east coast road trip and college bowl trip, though I don’t think I ever stayed the night
- Florida – went my first few days after working at the church for a camera operator convention. Also visited DisneyWorld
- Georgia – started this list when staying at the downtown Westin for an archivist convention. Also started east coast road trip by flying to Atlanta and staying at my sister’s place and some NAQT tourneys
- Hawaii – good old honeymoon and trip to investigate buying some property over there
- Idaho – went to Ricks College
- Illinois – good old college bowl. Went to a tourney at I think University of Illinois when competing for BYU’s college bowl team and visit the University of Chicago for a as yet failed documentary. Recently spent a few days in Chicago for work
- Indiana – lived in lovely Evansville for like seven years
- Iowa – good old college bowl
- Kansas – good old I-80, and stayed at Bruce’s brother house (I think) on the midwest road trip
- Kentucky – my dad worked in Kentucky when we lived in Indiana, though I can’t recall ever staying the night
- Louisiana – just went to my niece’s graduation from law school and stayed a few nights
- Maine – east coast road trip, though I can’t recall staying the night
- Maryland – college bowl, east coast road trip and I likely visited there when living in Virgina
- Massachusetts – east coast road trip and I think quiz bowl
- Michigan – went to visit my brother a time or two, one time on the old midwest road trip
- Minnesota – chilling with Ken and R., also midwest road trip and Workfront work trip
- Mississippi – did a cheap Mississippi visit during our Louisiana trip
- Missouri – midwest road trip and visiting my “cousins” Karen and Richard in Independence
- Montana – a trip to Billings with mom, siblings and my grandma Asay. No idea why we went up there
- Nebraska – visited when living in Cheyenne, also I-80
- Nevada – lived in Henderson, visited Vegas a few too many times, Mesquite with Scott, re:invent in 2023
- New Hampshire – east coast road trip
- New Jersey – east coast road trip and spent the night at the airport July 2024. This is my most recent state status change 😄
- New Mexico – visiting some of my dad’s aunts and uncles
- New York – visited New York city some few times, including for work when I was with About.com, to see Martha Argerich perform, east coast road trip, to sing at Carnegie Hall with the Wasatch Chorale
- North Carolina – east coast road trip and I think we stayed with a couple of Dave friends?
- North Dakota
- Ohio – visited when I think Trent was in some basketball tourney, also midwest road trip
- Oklahoma – en route to Texas when competing for Ricks speech and debate team
- Oregon – west coast road trip and Oscon two or three times
- Pennsylvania – east coast road trip, also Penn Bowl a few times
- Rhode Island – east coast road trip
- South Carolina – east coast road trip
- South Dakota – Mount Rushmore
- Tennessee – James’ graduation
- Texas – Ricks College speech and debate
- Utah – I live there now, silly
- Vermont – east coast road trip and visiting Sharon
- Virginia – used to live in Vienna
- Washington – took a ride one night while going to Oscon in Portland, and stayed a few days for Radiohead concert
- West Virginia – east coast road trip
- Wisconsin – midwest road trip, Steven’s Point trivia and ModelOp trip to Madison
- Wyoming – some few years in Cheyenne

Just get North Dakota done with already. I’m not sure it will get a tourist attraction in the next 50 years.
